Distribution: Occurring chiefly west of the Cascade crest in Washington; Alaska to California, east to western Nevada.

Habitat: Open wet area in subalpine and alpine marshes and seepages.

Description:
General:

Stems erect, 0-1 leaves.

Leaves:

Basal leaves orbiculate-reniform to oblong. Margins mostly entire, sometimes crenate to dentate.

Flowers:

~15-40 millimeters in diameter. Sepals colored faintly, white to yellow. Sepals abaxially blue to dark violet.

Fruit:

Follicles; 4-15 linear-oblong bodies, style and stigma straight or curved slightly. Seeds elliptic. ~2 millimeters long
